Jessica Magonet is passionate advocate for sustainable development. This summer, she traveled to the Rio+20 Earth Summit, the largest conference in the history of the UN, to encourage world leaders to commit to the protection of the polar regions. She traveled to the Earth Summit as the Policy Director of the Students on Ice Alumni Delegation. Jessica became passionate about the Arctic after traveling up North on an educational expedition with 80 students from around the world in 2010.
Jessica has previously served as the chair of the Executive Committee of the Sierra Youth Coalition, Canada’s largest youth environmental organization. As a volunteer for The Climate Project, she has spoken in schools and libraries across Montreal about the impacts of climate change on the Arctic. In high school, she organized a conference called Green v Greed for students across the province that highlighted the link between environmental issues and global poverty.
Jessica is currently studying law at McGill University, where she is the Executive Editor of the McGill International Journal of Sustainable Development Law and Policy. Jessica dreams of writing mad environmental policy and dystopian novels.
